Sports is an important part of living in Greater Trondheim region. As well as for exercising, the sports community is an excellent way to get new friends and be introduced to the Norwegian social life!

So whether you like summer sports, winter sports, indoor or outdoor activities, we've got you covered. An another good treat - you can attend many sport activities in your neighbourhood - close to your new local home. So there is less time wasted on travel and logistics - more time with your new friends!

Usually, the sports clubs (idrettslag) are centered around the local neighbourhoods and is driven by volunteers. Children get introduced to their local clubs based on the school they attend. So you see, at the Idrettslag, the kids get together for soccer, handball, skiing, athletics, swimming or whatever sports is preferred. Want build new friendships fast - join an idrettslag. Ask around at your children's school, or any of your new colleagues, we're sure you'll be introduced to a sports activity of your liking.

Prefer watching or be entertained by sports? No problem, there is always something going on. Trondheim is home to top Norwegian soccer club Rosenborg both for women and men.

Trondheim hosted the Nordic Ski World Championship in 2025, and is an annual venue on the World Cup schedule. If you are more into Alpine skiing, world Cup Venues åre(Sweden) and Kvitfjell are just a few hours drive away. If a few hours are a few hours too many, you can check out local ski resort Vassfjellet, which is a 30-40 minute drive from Trondheim. You can even take Atb (Trondheim's local bus company) bus nr. 96 to Vassfjellet if you don't have a car!
